They Might Be Presidents

On Presidents Day, George Washington,  Abraham Lincoln, and our other elected presidents take the spotlight.    But take time to look over these biographies of those who ran for that highest elected office. . . .and did not win.

 

John W. Dean, of Watergate renown, and Barry Goldwater, Jr. gathered and edited the journals  of Barry Goldwater in Pure Goldwater.  Goldwater, known as “Mr. Conservative,” ran for president in 1964.

 

 

 

   

In his memoir, One Solider’s Story, Bob Dole recounts his experiences in World War II and in recovering from war injuries.  Dole was the Republican  party’s presidential candidate in 1996. 

 

 

 

 

 

A Godly Hero follows the life of  William Jennings Bryan.  Bryan today is remembered for his role in the 1925 Scopes Trial, and for his famous Cross of Gold Speech.   He was nominated by the Democratic party in 1896, 1900, and 1908 for the presidency, but never won the office.
